Start with the change you want to make

You don’t need to know every product name to get started. Think about what you want your garage to do better, then use the comparisons below to build a shortlist.

1. Choose the door format

Door familyHow it opensWhat to compare
Roller doorsA steel curtain coils above the opening.Profile, coil space, security system, usable opening and automation.
Sectional doorsHinged panels follow tracks beneath the ceiling.Panel design, ceiling space, finishes, compatible windows and insulation.
Designer collectionsSectional construction with model-specific finishes or cladding.Base door, construction, weight, dimensions and permitted options.
Flex-A-DoorA flexible curtain follows tracks into a horizontal position.A site-specific alternative to investigate for restricted headroom or tilt-door replacement.
Commercial doors and shuttersRolling, sectional or shutter systems selected for the premises.Daily cycles, peak use, access control, opening size and site loads.

2. Check the available space

We’ll measure both your opening and the space around it before confirming the door size. Door width includes overlap, so it differs from the clear opening you drive through. Your chosen finish, wind rating and opener also need to suit the complete installation.

MeasurementWhy it matters
Opening width and heightDetermines the door size, overlap and usable vehicle opening.
HeadroomProvides space for the roller curtain or sectional track, brackets and springs.
Side roomMust accommodate guides, brackets, the selected opener and any lock hardware.
Ceiling depth / backroomNeeded for sectional tracks and the opener rail; check beams, pipework and storage.
Floor and supporting structureSlope can affect the bottom detail; the lintel and side supports must suit the installation.

Working with limited headroom? Ask us about Flex-A-Door. We’ll check its fitting schedule and approved opener against your opening before recommending it.

3. Set your priorities

4. Compare colour and texture

Shortlist the profile before the colour. Explore the named steel colours and finishes and check the exact list on your chosen product page. A visualiser helps you imagine the result; a sample and the approved configuration establish what to order.

6. Compare complete quotes

A door-only price does not include every cost of an automatic installation. Ask whether the quote includes the opener, rail, controls, beams, locking, hub, backup battery, installation, removal and any electrical or building work. Read the price guide and exclusions.

Warranty cover follows the model and application. Our eligible residential Total Confidence package requires a matching B&D door and opener purchased in the same transaction, installation by B&D or a B&D Representative, registration and the specified servicing. The time or cycle limit ends cover when either is reached first. Springs, seals, lifting cables and opener accessories have separate component terms.

Read the model-specific warranty guide and keep your purchase, installation and service records.

Still deciding? We can help.

Can I see the colour on my home first?

Try our Garage Door Visualiser to compare the overall look, then view a physical sample before making your final selection. Your dealer will confirm the finish available for your particular door, profile and size.

Does a new opener give me every security feature?

No. An opener, a physical lock and Safety Beams perform different jobs. Ask what is standard in the quoted package, which upgrades are compatible and what safety equipment is required for your chosen controls.

Can I get advice at home?

Ask whether a B&D To You mobile-showroom consultation is available in your area. Your local team will confirm coverage and appointment arrangements. You can also find a dealer to discuss displays, samples and local advice.
