Storm-Shield wind-rated sectional garage doors

Prepare your garage for high winds with our Storm-Shield sectional door. Tracklock guides and clips form part of the door itself, helping hold the panels in place under wind pressure. There’s no separate storm brace to fit when a warning arrives; we’ll confirm the rated configuration your property needs.

Tracklock construction and safety

High-tensile galvanised Tracklock guides work with clips mounted on each panel. The system helps retain the panels under wind load while leaving the door free of a separate centre brace. Pinchfree panels, enclosed stiles, internal hinging, reinforced rail ends and a bottom weatherseal complete the specified door construction.

Our July 2025 specification includes 20,000-cycle springs, large-diameter bearing wheels and stainless or galvanised cable options. Storm-Shield does not use the Icon twin-wheel Smoothtrack arrangement. Keep the door closed as appropriate during severe weather; wind resistance does not mean automatic operation is unrestricted in a storm.

Wind rating and design pressures

SpecificationSpecification
Wind region / terrainRegion C, Terrain Category 2
Wind classificationUp to C2 for the certified configuration
Door width below 4 mInward 2.92 kPa; outward −3.37 kPa
Door width 4 m and aboveInward 2.92 kPa; outward −3.04 kPa
Test standardAS/NZS 4505:2012; design-pressure reference AS/NZS 1170.2:2011

We’ll confirm the certification, door size and fixings required for your project’s wind classification. The references above identify the system’s test and design standards; your site still needs assessment against the applicable requirements.

Current profiles and size limits

NullarborFlat, minimalist panels3,415 × 5,500 mm

We’ll check your chosen profile’s size limit against your opening, tracks, structure, finish and opener load. Width includes the required overlap. Raised-panel pattern dimensions can differ between manufacturing locations, so ask us to confirm the details for your door.

Choose from the COLORBOND, Knotwood and specified Natural-Look options in our July 2025 Storm-Shield range. Timber and natural finishes depend on profile, with smooth and woodgrain textures available on the specified combinations. We’ll check your finish and explain normal flat-panel appearance before you order.

Bring your colour ideas to us and compare a physical sample alongside your home’s finishes. We’ll confirm availability for your door size, profile, manufacturing location and installation, including any surcharge. Screens, lighting, timber-look patterns and weathering can affect appearance, so an exact match to another building product cannot be guaranteed.

Installation requirements

We check the selected door model, track, cable drums and brackets together. The figures below are planning dimensions in millimetres; the profile-specific maximum door size still applies.

MeasurementRequirement
Side room — A1 / A2120 mm each side. Optional AUTO LOCK mounts on the panel without extra side room; Smoothtrack is not part of Storm-Shield
Curtain overlap — DAt least 30 mm each side. Additional door overlap requires additional side room.
Door-track backroom — C2Door height + 350 mm

C1 is based on a Secure, Smart or Smart Pro drive unit plus rail. A profile with a lower height limit cannot use the maximum height of another profile.

We also check beams, ceiling slopes, pipework and storage. Residential sectional-door specifications — July 2025 shows the A1/A2, B, C1/C2 and D measuring points and installation qualifications.

Warranty and care

We back Storm-Shield with the cover below. Springs have a separate design-cycle rating and warranty period, and component limits still apply.

CoverPeriod
Standard residential cover5 years or 20,000 cycles, whichever occurs first
Eligible Total Confidence package10 years or 20,000 cycles, whichever occurs first

For Total Confidence cover, purchase an eligible genuine B&D door and opener together, have both installed by a B&D Representative, register the purchase as soon as possible, and arrange the required service within 12 months and every two years thereafter. Use, care and maintenance conditions apply; adding an opener later does not automatically qualify an older door for a new ten-year warranty.

Seals, springs and lifting cables have separate one-year component cover. Opener accessories and rails also have separate terms. Keep the purchase, installation and service records. Please check your warranty for exclusions, including normal wear, damage, unsuitable use and corrosion. The warranty is additional to your applicable consumer rights.

Our current general warranty provides five-year/20,000-cycle standard cover for Storm-Shield. An older brochure refers to three years; keep and use the applicable warranty supplied with your purchase.

Keep the opening clear, watch the door until it finishes moving and keep children away from the moving curtain, tracks and controls. Arrange professional attention if the door becomes heavy, noisy, uneven or damaged. Springs, cables and brackets are under load; adjustments belong with a qualified installer.

Wash exposed door surfaces and follow the owner handbook for cleaning sheltered areas. Coastal salt and industrial fallout need extra care; properties within one kilometre of a corrosive environment need specific advice. Keep running surfaces clean and follow the product instructions for lubrication rather than greasing nylon running strips. Ask us to set a maintenance schedule appropriate to use and exposure.
