Peak force is a short-term motor figure, not a door-weight allowance. Door weight, area, travel, balance and installation clearance must all suit the opener. Strong wind can add pressure to a door and trigger its obstruction response. Power Drive is not a sectional-door opener or a way to compensate for damaged springs or a door that binds.

What comes with Power Drive?

We include remote operation, soft start/stop and a service indicator in the standard setup. Smartphone control, battery backup, Safety Beams and an entry keypad are separate options unless your written installation package includes them. Ask us to list the exact accessories and model versions on your quote.

Will it fit my door and garage?

We can assess a new or existing roller door. The installer checks its condition, balance, curtain/drum arrangement, axle, travel and operating force, then confirms the correct mounting and safety equipment. A suitable door should move freely by hand before an opener is fitted.

Installation requirementDetails
HandingFactory configuration is right-hand installation, viewed from inside looking out. The unit can be configured for left-hand installation.
Minimum gap from curtain to inside of bracket41 mm
Minimum gap from curtain to wall85 mm
Recommended gap from curtain to inside of bracket95 mm
Recommended gap from curtain to wall135 mm
Space for optional battery backupAt least 135 mm from the curtain to the inside of the bracket, as specified in the manual
Power pointA properly earthed, three-pin, single-phase outlet within reach of the power cord and positioned as required by the installation instructions
Weather exposureA dry, protected installation position; the opener is not weatherproof
Access during power failureAn emergency access device is required where there is no separate pedestrian entrance
Wicket doorA door with a wicket door requires an appropriate interlock
Removable mullionsNot recommended with this opener

Measure these opener gaps from the curtain. Your complete door installation may need more space than the opener alone, and its opening-side clearances use different measuring points. Leave installation, electrical work and spring adjustments to the appropriate qualified professional. We do not recommend portable generators because supply surges can damage the opener.

Power Drive and Roll-A-Door Secure

Choosing Roll-A-Door Secure? We’ll specify its opener with the complete dual-lock system. An existing RDO-1V4 may not operate those locks, and adding an opener cannot turn a standard roller door into Secure. The “AUTO LOCK: N/A” entry in our July 2025 Power Drive accessory table applies to that earlier range; Secure has its own later system requirements.

Choose your accessories

OptionWhat it adds and what it needs
Smartphone Control KitRemote monitoring and operation through the B&D App using a compatible Smart Hub. Power Drive does not include smartphone control as standard. The kit includes Safety Beams; a compatible phone and suitable Wi-Fi/cellular connectivity are needed. Phone not included.
Safety BeamsAn interrupted beam while the door is closing causes the door to stop and reverse. Required for Auto-Close and for the specified out-of-sight smartphone setup. The beam path must remain clear and the system must be installed and tested correctly.
Rechargeable Battery BackupAllows operation during a mains outage. This is an optional accessory, not built-in backup power. Available operation depends on battery condition and charge; the operating guide allows 24–48 hours to recover maximum charge from a low state.
Tri-Tran+ Entry KeypadPIN-code access without carrying a handheld remote; specify a compatible keypad.
Additional remotesAdd compatible transmitters within the 64-transmitter capacity. Remote range varies with surroundings and radio interference.
Remote aerialAn installer option where the building or radio conditions restrict reception.
Emergency access deviceProvides the required external manual-access arrangement when there is no other pedestrian entrance.
Bell switch / key switch and auxiliary outputThe RDO-1V4 manual provides inputs and a programmable AUX output for compatible professional installations. AUX is a one-second pulse, rated at a maximum 35 V DC and 80 mA.

What the connected setup can do

With a compatible hub, Safety Beams and the B&D App, you can operate and check your door from your phone. Depending on your equipment and app setup, functions include door-operation and extended-open alerts, service notifications, access-time restrictions, partial opening, activity history and adding or removing users. Compatible setups can also manage doors and gates at multiple locations and link supported Apple Siri or Google Home accounts. We’ll help you confirm the functions available for your equipment and current app version.

Smartphone control depends on the home network and mobile connectivity; it is not an offline access guarantee. Have the installer complete travel-limit setup, confirm Wi-Fi coverage at the garage, connect the hub and test app operation and Safety Beams. Keep the door’s path clear because connected operation can occur when no one is standing beside it.

Operating and customisation modes

ModeHow it works
Normal Open / Stop / CloseA programmed remote button operates the door. Pressing while it is moving stops it; the next operation moves it in the opposite direction.
Pedestrian / PET modeA programmed partial-opening position provides a smaller opening without a full opening cycle.
Vacation modeA programmed vacation control restricts operation from the other stored transmitters. Follow the model’s manual to activate and restore normal operation.
Courtesy-light controlA compatible remote button can be assigned to operate the courtesy light independently.
Auto-Close — Power Drive onlyRequires correctly fitted and working Safety Beams. The manual’s mode uses a 30-second closing delay and requires interruption of the beam after opening to trigger the auto-close cycle. If the beam is not interrupted, the door stays open. If an obstruction makes the door reopen, beam interruption is needed again before another automatic close.
Remote programmingStore compatible controls at the opener or use a pre-coded remote within range, following the quick guide. Remote learning is unavailable in some states, including battery-backup operation, an active service indicator or an obstructed PE beam.

Ask your installer to configure the modes you actually need and demonstrate them at handover. Auto-Close must not be enabled without working Safety Beams. Changes to force limits, travel limits or safety settings require the appropriate installation procedure; do not increase force to overcome a sticking door.

What you noticeWhat to check
One remote fails but another worksCheck the failed remote’s battery and programming. Its light should be solid when a button is held; a flashing or unlit indicator calls for a battery check/replacement.
Motor runs but the door stays stillThe opener may be manually disengaged. Follow the re-engagement procedure and test only when the doorway is clear.
Door reverses unexpectedlyCheck for an obstruction and, if fitted, a blocked or misaligned Safety Beam. Do not bypass the safety system.
Door stops or moves slowlyA door fault or poor balance may need service. If operating on battery backup, low charge may also be involved.
Remote range becomes shortCheck the battery, surroundings and possible radio interference. A compatible remote aerial may help after installer assessment.
Courtesy light failsArrange service for the LED rather than attempting internal electrical repairs.

Power outages, manual release and ongoing care

If your door is damaged, crooked, unbalanced or has a broken spring or cable, stop using it and arrange a repair. Do not disengage an open or unsupported door. Keep people and vehicles clear of the opening.

For a power outage on a sound, closed door, follow our Power Drive RDO-1V4 manual-operation guide. It explains the downward release and re-engagement actions, separate-lock checks and how to test normal operation. While disengaged, the opener no longer secures the door. Do not force the release or door; arrange help if either is difficult to move.

For garages with another locking system, follow that complete system’s release procedure as well. In particular, do not force a Roll-A-Door Secure against its engaged dual locks. If there is no separate garage entrance, include emergency external access in the installation from the outset.

Test the safety system monthly, including the obstruction-reversal check with a 40 mm-high object on the floor under the door. Follow the complete procedure in your manual and keep people clear. If the door fails the test, stop automatic operation and arrange a service. Leave springs, cables and force settings to a trained professional.

Arrange professional service within the first 12 months and every two years thereafter for Total Confidence warranty eligibility. The opener manual’s service record also identifies a first service at 12 months or 3,000 cycles, whichever occurs first. Usage, condition and the installation may justify more frequent attention.

The remote uses a CR2032 button battery. Keep new and used batteries away from children and refit the battery cover securely. If a battery may have been swallowed or inserted into the body, seek immediate medical attention. For service, have the opener model, installation details and light/beep pattern ready; your installer’s details are usually on a sticker on the back of the door.

Power Drive warranty and eligibility

CoverWarranty period
Power Drive residential standard warranty7 years or 20,000 cycles, whichever occurs first
Eligible residential Total Confidence Warranty10 years or 20,000 cycles, whichever occurs first
Accessories and opener components listed in the general terms1 year, including AUTO LOCK, Safety Beams, battery backup, smartphone kit/hub and transmitters
Commercial use under the general Power Drive warrantyNot applicable; Power Drive is unsuitable for commercial use

For the general Total Confidence Warranty, purchase the eligible B&D rolling door and rolling-door opener in the same transaction, have them installed by B&D or a B&D Representative, register the purchase as soon as possible, use and maintain them as directed, and have a B&D Representative service them within 12 months and every two years thereafter. Standard cover also requires authorised installation and correct use, care and maintenance.

The warranty start date is the purchase date on your receipt. Building-contract purchases use the earlier of six months after the builder’s purchase and completion under the contract. Keep receipts and servicing records. A Power Drive supplied within a complete Roll-A-Door Secure system is subject to that system’s separate warranty terms.

The general terms exclude specified faults caused by unsuitable or unserviced doors, excessive use, manual door force exceeding 20 kg, exceeding the opener’s door-weight limit, continuous operation exceeding one minute in ten, power surges, unsuitable wiring, interference, misuse and unauthorised modifications. Consumables and normal wear require maintenance and replacement. Report a possible defect promptly rather than continuing to operate a faulty system. The full terms explain inspection, repair or replacement and your additional Australian Consumer Law rights.
