Common problems to describe

SymptomWhat to tell the repairer
Door stuck open or closedWhether it is obstructed, damaged or unable to secure the property.
Remote does not operate the doorWhich controls work, the opener model and any indicator pattern.
Motor runs but the door does not moveWhether the mechanism appears disengaged and whether any damage occurred.
Door reverses or stopsWhere in its travel this happens and whether the beam path is obstructed.
Grinding, scraping, uneven movement or slow travelWhen the change began; stop cycling a door with suspected mechanical damage.
Broken spring, cable, panel or bent trackDescribe visible damage from a safe position; keep the door out of use.

While you wait

If the door is damaged, crooked, off its tracks, has a broken spring or cable, or may fall, stop using it and keep people away from the opening. Do not force the door, adjust springs or cables, or disconnect an unsupported door from its opener. Arrange a trained technician.

A power failure is different from mechanical damage. For sound equipment, the exact owner guide explains manual operation and the precautions to take. An opener that is disengaged may no longer hold the door locked. Do not apply another model’s release procedure or attempt to lift an unsafe door.

Find the correct owner guide. If you are unsure whether manual operation is safe, ask the repairer before attempting it.

Repair scope and charges

A repair price depends on diagnosis, labour, parts and access. The free measure-and-quote offer for a new door does not establish a free repair visit. Ask for the call-out or assessment charge, what is included, and how additional work will be quoted before agreeing to it.

We receive enquiries for B&D and other brands. Commercial work depends on the door size, use and location; give the provider those details when booking.

After the assessment

Ask the technician to explain the fault, proposed work and any parts needed. Keep the invoice and service record, including the door/opener model. If you think the issue is a product defect, raise it promptly and provide the purchase and service evidence for assessment under the applicable warranty. Read the warranty guide.

The linked forms are on our main B&D website. Review the Privacy Collection Statement and Privacy Policy when supplying your details. Opening this guide does not submit a booking or registration.
