What happens in a power outage

The compatible backup takes over automatically when mains power is lost. When power returns, charging resumes automatically. It is designed for occasional outage operation; charge, battery condition, temperature, door balance and load all affect the number of available cycles.

QuestionWhat you need to know
How many cycles?Usually two to four full open-and-close cycles, depending on the installation and battery condition; the available number can vary.
Initial chargingAllow up to 24 hours for maximum charge on the compatible Smart Pro, Smart and Secure system. For the compatible battery-equipped Power Drive / Roll-A-Pro configuration, allow 24–48 hours. Follow the charging time for your particular opener and kit.
Will internet control still work?Only if the hub, router, internet and mobile connection needed for that function remain available.
Does it power the whole garage? No. It powers the compatible opener system, not lights, appliances or the building supply.

A description such as “B&D sectional opener” is not enough to identify every older generation. Give us the model label or installation details so we can match the kit and its mounting.

Installation and safe access

For Power Drive’s recommended battery arrangement, allow 135 mm from the curtain edge to the bracket—more space than the opener-only configuration. The garage’s complete door, bracket and wall measurements still need checking.

Ask your installer to test the system under battery power and show you its status indicators. Working on mains power does not tell you whether an older battery still holds a charge. Keep its connections and enclosure in the condition required by your manual.

When manual release is still needed

If your door is damaged, crooked, unbalanced or has a broken spring or cable, stop using it and arrange a repair. Do not disengage an open or unsupported door. Keep people and vehicles clear of the opening.

If a power outage or depleted backup battery stops an otherwise sound, closed door, follow the manual-operation guide for your exact opener and any separate lock. Our Power Drive RDO-1V4 and Roll-A-Pro RDO-1V3 guide and Secure SDO-6V3, Smart SDO-7V3 and Smart Pro SDO-9V3 guide explain the different release and re-engagement procedures. If your model differs, use its own instructions or call us on 13 62 63.

For a garage with no other entrance, discuss an appropriate external emergency access device. A battery backup reduces reliance on manual access during an outage but does not eliminate the need to plan it.

Care, replacement and warranty

We cover Battery Backup with a one-year accessory warranty. The opener’s seven- or ten-year package headline is not the battery’s warranty period. Follow the relevant charging, testing, replacement and disposal instructions, and have reduced outage capacity checked before relying on the battery.

Battery backup does not make an installation safe to operate through fire, flood, structural damage or water exposure. If the door or electrical equipment has been damaged, stop use and obtain professional advice.

Find the right accessory for your system

To help us recommend a suitable setup, have these details ready:

We check compatibility before specifying a kit. A photo of the labels and existing arrangement can help us identify the equipment; your quote should name the supplied kit, installation and any extra safety components.

Your brochures and operating guides

Find the installation drawings, full operating instructions and warranty conditions below. Choose the document that matches your model and supplied configuration, as controls and requirements can differ between generations.
