What the beams detect

A transmitter and receiver face each other across the opening. The system detects interruption of that beam path, not every object everywhere in the garage. Keep the doorway clear even with beams installed, watch door movement when in view and test the protection regularly.

We require compatible Safety Beams for out-of-sight smart operation and the auto-close arrangements in your manual. Our current wireless guide also requires them where closing force at the bottom edge exceeds 400 N. Your installer will configure and test the protection for your opener.

These figures describe the named versions only. Wireless refers to the beam connection; the base station still needs the correct power and opener connection. We identify your opener, beam label and opening width before selecting a replacement. PE-4V1 wired and WPE-3V1 wireless beam specifications.

Position and alignment

The WPE-3V2 guide specifies the beam 100 mm above floor level, with the transmitter and receiver aligned and as close as possible to the doorway. Its drawing places the bottom of each unit 65 mm above the floor. The receiver should be in shade; the transmitter can be in sun or shade. Site conditions and the correct brackets/fixings must be checked.

The sensor height, sight line and mounting position affect which obstructions are detected. Do not raise or move a sensor to bypass a recurring obstruction. Ask the installer to diagnose alignment, sunlight, damage or a dirty lens.

Testing, batteries and fault symptoms

WPE-3V1 LEDs may turn off to save battery power, so an unlit indicator alone does not establish a fault. Follow the instructions for your version. On V2, the troubleshooting checks include flat batteries and obstructed or misaligned beams.

Warranty

B&D Wireless Safety Beams have a one-year accessory warranty, subject to the applicable terms. Maintain and test them throughout their service life; warranty duration is not a replacement or battery-life schedule.
