A product name can span different generations. Check the model and version label before ordering a kit. Compatibility includes the opener, hub, accessory connections and safety equipment—not just the phone you use.
Plan connectivity and shared access
The compatible Smartphone Control Kit uses a Smart Hub and the B&D App. You’ll need a compatible phone and suitable Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity for the functions you want to use. Check the signal where the hub will be installed, then follow the instructions for the supplied equipment.
Set up the account securely, grant access only to people who need it and remove permissions when circumstances change. Confirm available notifications and door-status behaviour during handover. Keep a suitable local control and know how to get help if your internet connection is unavailable.
Include Safety Beams in smart operation
Our opener instructions require photoelectric beams where closing force at the bottom edge exceeds 400 N (40 kg), and for the specified smart operation outside the user’s line of sight. Your installer must assess the actual force and control method for your model. Door weight and closing force are different measurements. Safety Beams do not replace safe use, and built-in Automatic Reverse does not replace the required beams. Keep people, pets and vehicles clear of the moving door.
Out-of-sight operation means you cannot check the opening yourself when pressing the control. Have our installer demonstrate the protective devices and explain when the door must be taken out of service. Do not bypass a beam or use repeated commands to overcome a fault.
Check each smart-home integration
Phone control through the B&D App does not by itself establish compatibility with every voice assistant, home-automation platform or third-party controller. Before buying another device, ask us to confirm the supported integration for your exact opener, hub and software.
If a supported voice or automation setup is being considered, confirm who can issue commands, what authentication is required, whether the opening can be supervised and how the system handles an obstruction or connection failure. Keep the manufacturer’s safety requirements in the final specification.
Know the difference between position and locking
A status showing the door is closed is not a blanket guarantee that a physical lock is engaged. Our sectional AUTO LOCK and Roll-A-Door Secure have different hardware and operating arrangements. We’ll identify the compatible system and demonstrate its behaviour.
Manual release disengages the opener’s holding function. Do not release an open, unsupported or damaged door. Follow the separate lock procedure and model-specific instructions before securing and re-engaging a sound door.
Plan for a power or connection outage
Compatible Battery Backup can provide limited powered operation during a mains outage; it does not guarantee the home router or internet service will keep working. Arrange alternative access and learn the model-specific manual procedure before you need it. A garage with no other entrance needs an appropriate external emergency access arrangement.
Check support and cover
Our standard residential opener cover is 5 years or 10,000 cycles for Roll-A-Pro; 7 years or 20,000 cycles for Power Drive, Secure and Smart; and 7 years or 30,000 cycles for Smart Pro, whichever occurs first. An eligible Total Confidence door-and-opener package can extend the time period to 10 years; model-specific cycle limits and all other conditions still apply. Accessories have separate cover. Read our full warranty conditions for installation, registration, servicing, use and component requirements. A warranty period is not a promised service life.
For connected equipment, also read our product support and security update periods and published statement of compliance. Match the listed product and version. The warranty period and the security-update support period are separate commitments.
Keep energy expectations realistic
Remote status and control can help you manage an open door, but we do not promise a measured household energy saving from adding an app. Thermal performance depends on the door construction, insulation, seals and the rest of the building. Discuss compatible insulation and seals before ordering your door.
