Add a sectional remote using an existing programmed remote

Check the model and both remotes

Applies to Secure SDO-6V3, Smart SDO-7V3 and Smart Pro SDO-9V3. Check the model/version label and match the controls to the linked manual before starting. A familiar product name or remote appearance alone does not establish compatibility.

This procedure does not cover every older B&D opener, PanelMax, commercial operator or gate motor. Use the instructions for that exact model. Roll-A-Door Secure and installations with an automatic lock also need their separate lock/system procedure.

You need the already-programmed remote, a compatible new remote, a ballpoint pen and a clear view of the door while within range. The small coding-hole button is on the already-programmed remote used for this procedure.

Check when remote coding is available

Keep the sound door and its travel path in view, keep people and vehicles clear, and be ready for movement when the programmed remote is pressed. This method uses the two remotes; you do not need to remove the opener controls cover.

• Remote code set is disabled while the opener is powered by battery backup.
• It is disabled when the service indicator is active.
• It is disabled while the opener indicates that a blocked photoelectric beam is preventing closing.

Resolve the underlying condition or arrange assistance. Do not bypass a beam or reset a service warning simply to add a remote.

Add the new remote

1. On the already-programmed remote, press the working button whose function you want to give to the new remote. This can operate the door; keep the opening clear.
2. Using the pen, press the middle button through the coding hole on that same already-programmed remote for 2 seconds. The opener flashes and beeps.
3. Take the new remote. Hold its chosen button for 3 seconds, then release.
4. Hold that same new-remote button again for 3 seconds, then release.
5. Wait until the opener stops flashing and beeping. With the door in view and its path clear, press the new button to test.

Confirm both controls work

Check the new control and the original control. If the new one does not work, confirm compatibility, battery condition and available memory. If there is no working compatible remote with the pictured coding button, use the direct-at-opener procedure for the matching model.
