Choose the right material and finish for your sectional door
A sectional door’s appearance comes from more than its colour. The base construction, panel profile, texture and cladding all affect the result. We’ll help you choose a combination that suits your home and the space available for the door and opener.
Our quote form opens on our main B&D website. For a fault, use the service or repair option in this guide; charges are confirmed separately.
Start with construction, then select the look
Our standard Panelift and Panelift Icon ranges use steel sectional panels. Their Timber-Look and Timbergrain finishes give the appearance of timber without making the door a solid-timber construction. Natural-Look creates stone, concrete or weathered-metal effects on specified Icon constructions.
Sheer Panel is a different option: aluminium composite cladding with a flush, floating appearance. Its PFIFZ construction has its own size and accessory limits. Treat it as a complete model choice, rather than a finish that can be added to any standard door.
Compare the five standard profiles
| Profile | Visual character |
|---|---|
| Nullarbor | Flat panels for a restrained, contemporary look |
| Seville | Fine horizontal ribs |
| Madrid | A broader contemporary ribbed pattern |
| Statesman | Raised rectangular panels |
| Grange | Wider raised rectangular panels |
Choose a profile that relates to your home’s lines and proportions. The same colour can look quite different on a flat panel and a raised pattern. Panelift and Icon have different maximum sizes for each profile, so we check the measured opening before confirming the design.
Understand texture and colour restrictions
Standard Panelift Nullarbor is woodgrain; Nullarbor Smooth is an Icon option. Other smooth and woodgrain choices depend on the selected profile and finish. Normal surface undulations can be more noticeable on flat, smooth, dark panels. Compare a physical sample in the light at your property.
Timber-Look offers seven colours across Nullarbor, Seville and Madrid, plus five additional Nullarbor colours. Classic Cedar and Caoba Timbergrain are available across all five standard profiles. Natural-Look and Sheer Panel belong to the Icon collections. We’ll confirm local availability and any surcharge.
Choose practical options at the same time
Windows, insulation, cladding and tracks are not independent choices. Insul-Shield is ordered with an eligible new door; it is not offered as a retrofit. Nullarbor Smooth is excluded, and insulated and Knotwood/Timber-Look combinations have window restrictions. Sheer Panel does not inherit ordinary steel-profile window or taper options.
The final weight matters to the springs and opener. Smart Pro SDO-9V3 has a maximum gross door weight of 300 kg and maximum area of 18 m²; both limits apply, and the door must be balanced. A heavier decorative finish cannot be approved by looking only at the motor’s peak force.
Specify the whole installation
Tell us about coastal exposure, assessed wind or bushfire requirements and how you use the garage. A decorative finish alone does not establish a wind or BAL rating. We also measure headroom, side room, track depth and the supporting structure.
Your written quote should identify the base door, profile, construction, colour, texture, options, opener and warranty. Explore the designer collections or compare Panelift and Icon before arranging a measure and quote.
