A guide to roller garage doors
We introduced the B&D Roll-A-Door in 1956. Its familiar curtain rolls up above the opening, making it a practical way to keep much of the garage ceiling clear. Today, our roller-door range offers different profiles, finishes and equipment packages. The right choice starts with your opening and how the door will be used.

How a roller door uses the space
The curtain travels vertically in side guides and coils around a drum above the opening. There is no outward-swinging panel, but the roll still requires headroom and the brackets, guides and opener need side clearance. A roller door does not eliminate the need for space above the opening.
Have the opening, available headroom, side room and nearby services measured. Keep storage and lighting clear of the moving door and equipment. A professional assessment is especially useful when replacing a tilt door or working around a low lintel.

For commercial duty or assessed wind requirements, use the appropriate product specification. Residential opener capacities and warranty terms should not be applied to a business opening.
Choose the finish for the exact model
Compare the available steel colours and profiles with your façade. TimberCoat is a model- and size-dependent finish, including restrictions to relevant double-door configurations; it is not offered on every roller door. Check the current model palette and physical sample before ordering.
The bottom weather strip helps restrict debris and water entry. It does not make the garage waterproof or floodproof. Tell us about floor variation, exposure and any assessed site requirements.
Match the opener to the door
Our current Power Drive RDO-1V4 manual specifies a maximum door area of 16.5m² and maximum weight of 110kg. Roll-A-Pro RDO-1V3 specifies 15m² and 110kg. These are limits, not a selection method on their own: the door must be suitable, well balanced and operated within the permitted application.
Check the supplied controls and optional equipment. Smartphone control, Safety Beams and battery backup depend on the opener and generation. Sectional AUTO LOCK and the integrated Roll-A-Door Secure locks are different systems.
Plan installation and ongoing care
An itemised quote should identify the measured door, finish, opener, accessories, removal, installation and any electrical or building work. Do not assume a headline door price includes the complete setup.
Follow the care and service schedule supplied with your actual door and opener. Our current Power Drive RDO-1V4/Roll-A-Pro RDO-1V3 and Smart Pro SDO-9V3/Smart SDO-7V3/Secure SDO-6V3 manuals call for the initial service within 12 months or 3,000 cycles, whichever comes first, then the listed ongoing service schedule. High use or particular conditions may need additional attention. Keep service records and use the applicable warranty terms.
Eligible Total Confidence packages have product, installation, registration and servicing conditions. Cycle ratings are not a guaranteed lifespan, and component cover can differ from door cover. Read the applicable terms rather than assuming every roller door has an unconditional ten-year warranty.
