4 ways to improve your garage door security
Your garage can hold much more than a car, and it may connect directly to your home. We recommend looking at security as a combination of the door, the equipment that operates it and the way you manage access. These four steps help you identify the improvements that suit your garage.
Our quote form opens on the main B&D website.

1. Take control of who can get in
Keep handheld remotes with you rather than leaving them visible in a parked car. Review who has a remote or keypad PIN, and remove access that is no longer needed. If a remote is missing, follow the memory-clearing instructions for your exact opener and re-code only the transmitters you want to retain. Replacing a battery or deleting an app user does not erase a lost handset.
A compatible Entry Keypad can reduce the need to share handheld remotes. With supported smartphone control, you can manage access and check your door through the app. Available notifications and functions depend on your system; confirm them before relying on a particular alert or voice assistant. Secure the connecting door into your home as part of your wider security plan.
2. Check the opener and physical locking together
An automatic opener and a physical locking bolt perform different functions. Automatic Backdrive on applicable B&D openers reacts to attempted forced opening; it does not make the door impossible to force. Our sectional AUTO LOCK adds an automatic locking bolt to compatible installations. Panelift Icon includes AUTO LOCK in its specified package.
For a new roller-door system, Roll-A-Door Secure has its own integrated dual-lock arrangement. It is not a promise that a standalone sectional AUTO LOCK can be fitted to any roller door. Ask us to inspect the actual door, opener model and generation before ordering an upgrade.
3. Reduce what can be seen or accessed
Avoid leaving the garage open unnecessarily. Keep keys, tools and portable valuables out of direct view, and consider privacy when choosing garage-door windows. Lighting and clear sightlines around entry points can form part of a wider home-security plan.
If you are adding cameras, alarms or exterior lighting, check their installation and integration separately. A compatible phone-controlled opener does not by itself establish compatibility with every home-automation platform. We do not promise that a particular garage-door upgrade reduces insurance premiums. Discuss any insurance conditions directly with your provider.
4. Keep the system working as intended
Inspect visible damage and arrange servicing when the door becomes noisy, uneven or unreliable. A lock cannot compensate for a damaged curtain, poorly balanced door or incorrect installation. Keep remotes and app accounts secure and use the required Safety Beams for supported remote operation.
Our current Tri-Tran+ controls use encrypted changing codes, but security technology should not be described as unhackable or break-in-proof. Installation, access habits and maintenance still matter.
Choose the next step for your door
Tell us the door type, opener model, age and any existing locking or smart equipment. We can help you compare a compatible upgrade with a new system and provide a quote that separates the door, opener, lock, Safety Beams, smart-control equipment and installation.
Read our model-specific lost-remote guide if access has already been compromised.
