Kennards Self Storage. Clean lines, considered engineering.
At Kennards Self Storage in Murarrie, Brisbane, the doors needed to reflect the business’s distinctive identity and support a smooth experience for customers. We worked on the finish, curtain design and access requirements together.

This is a completed-project case study from April 2019. Product names and configurations below describe that project.
The challenge: make a high-gloss finish look its best
Kennards’ orange and blue identity extends throughout its storage centres, including the high-gloss orange doors on individual units. A high-gloss surface makes the curtain’s shape especially noticeable when customers look along a walkway.
Conventional rollforming can leave a curve, or “belly”, in the sheet. For this project, we needed a clean vertical appearance that would complement the finish.
Our solution: brake-press curtain technology
We used our brake-press process to stamp a rigid structural pattern into each Roll-A-Door curtain. Keeping the curtain flat helped create clean lines even with the glossy finish.
We also worked with Dulux Powders to match the corporate colour profile. The result connected the doors with the rest of the centre’s visual identity.
Designed around everyday operation
- Helical spring operation tailored to each door size.
- Nylofelt running strips for low-maintenance operation.
- Double-run bottom-rail roller blocks.
- Bottom-rail guide-stop testing to Australian standards, as described in the project case study.
The project also included a large automated access shutter for the loading area. Working with ATA automation allowed integration with the centre’s access-control system, bringing the physical door and access requirements together.
