Tilt garage doors and fittings

Planning a custom garage-door design? Our tilt-door fittings support a rigid panel that swings out and up, then rests near the ceiling. They can suit unusual openings and a choice of cladding. We’ll help you assess the complete panel, fittings and operating arrangement before you decide.

How a tilt door uses the space

A tilt door needs clear space in front of the opening throughout its swing. Allow for a parked vehicle, a pedestrian route and the driveway boundary. Low headroom can make a tilt arrangement useful, but the panel and hardware still need room to move and store overhead.

For larger doors, our fittings range includes arrangements using horizontal tracks to support the door in the open position and minimise protrusion. That does not remove the outward swing during opening. The frame, panel weight, springs, tracks and fixing substrate must be assessed as a complete system.

Custom cladding, colours and configurations

DecisionWhat we need to specify
Panel and frameA rigid, reinforced single-panel construction sized for the opening
CladdingMaterial, thickness, finish and finished weight; these determine the appropriate fittings
Colour and appearanceSelected with the cladding supplier and door fabricator; colours depend on your chosen cladding
Door sizeA measured and engineered arrangement; no single maximum applies to all custom claddings
Operating systemManual or a compatible automatic setup confirmed by your installer
Access and safetyClear swing area, safe release access and suitable obstruction protection where automated

We’ll help you assess the fittings for your custom tilt-door design and identify who supplies the finished door, cladding and other components. Each part has its own suitability and warranty requirements; custom timber, metal and composite designs need a complete assessment before they can be confirmed as a package.

Your quotation should identify the supplier of the fittings, fabricated frame/panel, cladding and opener, together with the installation and warranty responsibility for each. A warranty for one component is not automatically cover for the complete custom door.

Compare Flex-A-Door before replacing a tilt door

Flex-A-Door stores a flexible steel curtain on curved tracks close to the ceiling. It fits behind the opening and does not swing out, which can help when a vehicle parks close to the garage or the opening is arched.

Installation, maintenance and warranty

Installation and spring work require an experienced garage-door professional. Do not alter cladding weight, add panels or change spring tension without an assessment. A heavier door can exceed the capacity of the original fittings and opener.

Keep the opening clear, watch the door until it finishes moving and keep children away from the moving panel, arms, springs, tracks and controls. Arrange professional attention if the door becomes heavy, noisy, uneven or damaged. Springs, cables and brackets are under load; adjustments belong with a qualified installer.

Wash exposed door surfaces and follow the owner handbook for cleaning sheltered areas. Coastal salt and industrial fallout need extra care; properties within one kilometre of a corrosive environment need specific advice. Keep running surfaces clean and follow the product instructions for lubrication rather than greasing nylon running strips. Ask us to set a maintenance schedule appropriate to use and exposure.

Ask for the warranty of the actual fittings, finished door, cladding and opener on the quotation. The separate Flex-A-Door warranty is one year or 20,000 cycles; it is not a general warranty for every tilt-door design.
