Adding window inserts to your garage door
Windows can bring daylight into a garage and add detail to the front of your home. The useful starting point is not a hole in an existing panel: it is the window combination designed for the door. We can help you check the profile, layout and installation before you decide.

Which B&D doors have window options?
Our current sectional brochure shows Plain and Stockton window designs for Panelift and Panelift Icon doors in the Statesman and Grange profiles. These are defined combinations, not a universal insert that fits any door in the range.
| Choice | Design consideration |
|---|---|
| Plain | A simpler window treatment to compare with the lines of your home. |
| Stockton | A divided-window appearance that may complement more traditional exterior detailing. |
| Statesman or Grange | Select the window design for the corresponding panel profile; check the layout and sizes with us. |
For another profile, a roller door or a designer door, ask about its own approved options. Do not transfer a window specification from one product family to another.
Think about daylight and privacy together
Consider where the garage faces, what can be seen from the street and how you use the space inside. Window position and layout affect the appearance of the door and the view through it. Ask to see the actual available window sample; a photograph is not a glazing specification.
Daylight may reduce the occasions when you turn a light on, but we do not promise an electricity-bill saving or a particular level of thermal or acoustic performance from adding windows. For insulation, compare the approved complete door configuration separately.
Can an existing door be changed?
An existing Panelift or Panelift Icon in the relevant profile is a starting point for assessment, not automatic approval. We need to confirm its age, panel construction, dimensions, condition and compatible parts. A replacement section or a new door may be more appropriate than altering the existing panel.
Expect the technician to check weight, balance, spring selection and opener suitability after an approved change. Weathering can also mean a new panel or finish does not exactly match an older door. Ask about that before ordering.
Why professional fitting matters
Cutting a panel or altering the door can affect its structure and operation. Have the work assessed and completed by a trained garage door professional. Do not cut openings, adjust springs or change brackets yourself.
Professional installation does not create an unconditional warranty guarantee. Ask which parts and workmanship are covered, whether the proposed change is approved, and which original warranty conditions continue to apply. Installation timing and manufacturing lead time are confirmed for the actual job.
Prepare a clear window-insert enquiry
- Photograph the complete door, panel profile and any product label.
- Provide approximate opening dimensions and the door’s age if known.
- Explain your preferred window style and privacy needs.
- Ask whether the existing door is suitable or a section/full replacement is needed.
- Have the quote identify parts, balance checks, opener assessment, installation and warranty.
If you are choosing a new door, settle the windows alongside the profile, colour, insulation and opener so the whole package can be specified together.
