Choosing a garage-door colour for your home

Your garage door is a large part of the view from the street, so its colour deserves the same attention as the roof, walls and entry. We can help you decide whether the door should blend into the façade or become a feature, then check the colours and finishes available for the exact model.

Our quote form opens on the main B&D website.

Start with the finishes that will stay

Look at the roof, brick or render, window frames, gutters, paving and any timber. Identify whether those finishes feel warm or cool and whether their colours are strong or restrained. It is often easier to build a shortlist around fixed materials than around a small paint swatch in isolation.

Choose the door profile at the same time. A colour looks different on a broad flat surface, an embossed panel and a corrugated curtain because each catches light differently.

Use the home’s style as a guide

Style directionA useful starting point
Traditional or classicCompare softer neutrals with the brick, stone and trim; raised panel detail may support the existing architecture.
Modern or contemporaryTry a restrained match or a deliberate contrast, checking the effect across the full opening rather than one small sample.
Farmhouse or countryConsider warm neutrals and appropriate timber-look options alongside the natural materials already present.
Coastal or Hamptons-inspiredExplore lighter colours and the right profile/window combination; style does not itself establish coastal exposure suitability.

These are design suggestions, not rules. A bold colour can work if it belongs in the overall palette, but first confirm it is actually offered on the selected door and finish.

Know what “timber look” means for the model

Our timber-look ranges use different finishes and are not interchangeable. Sectional Timbergrain and Knotwood options have profile and range restrictions; roller-door TimberCoat has its own model and size availability. A timber appearance does not mean you are ordering a solid timber door.

Use the current steel-colour guide and designs and colours guide to make a shortlist, then have the exact combination confirmed. Custom colour enquiries, where available, require a separate specification.

Compare the colour on your actual home

Our Garage Door Visualiser can help you compare the overall appearance. Use it as a design aid, not a precise colour or dimension proof.

View physical samples beside your fixed finishes in daylight and shade. Screen settings, photography, texture and changing light affect the appearance. If only one section of an older door is replaced, weathering may prevent an exact match with the remaining panels.

Check the practical details before confirming

  • Exact door model, profile and surface texture.
  • Finish name and colour sample approval.
  • Compatibility with windows, insulation and other options.
  • Site exposure, required care and any assessed wind or bushfire requirement.
  • Price, lead time, installation scope and applicable warranty.

Tell us which colours you like and what you want the door to do for the façade. We can help you compare the available choices and bring the complete specification into your measured quote.
